Conservative Thoughts

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. --Thomas Jefferson

As most webmasters do, I use tracking software at ConservativeCompass.com that provides information to me regarding visitors to this site.  It’s not real detailed information, just your I.P. and service provider, how long you are here and the pages and links you click.

Recently Conservative Compass was visited by:

OrgName:    Headquarters, USAISC
OrgID:      HEADQU-3
Address:    NETC-ANC CONUS TNOSC
City:       Fort Huachuca
StateProv:  AZ
PostalCode: 85613-5000
Country:    US

NameServer: NS02.ARMY.MIL
NameServer: NS03.ARMY.MIL
If you google USAISC Fort Huachuca, you will find that this I.S.P. is serving a branch of US military intelligence headquartered in Arizona.  Their visit totaled 5 page hits and lasted less than a minute.

I will admit that when I first saw this visitor entry, it gave me pause.  Why has my modest website attracted the attention of the military intelligence and security arm of our Federal Government?  What could they possibly be looking for?  Am I in danger of having my home raided and my computer confiscated?  I took a deep breath and let logic redirect my thoughts.

I remembered that after all, we live in dangerous times.  After 9/11 our Government set into motion some activities that better enable us to protect ourselves from the dangerous people among us, who may not think as rationally as we do.

I am at once troubled by the softening of anti-terrorist policy by the Obama administration, and concerned by its intrusion into my life.  How can this government close Guantanamo, releasing those detainees to who knows where, and  yet feel it is necessary to monitor some guy posting his political opinions on an Internet blog?

Standing back and looking at this objectively, it is apparent that the staff at USAISC is just doing their job.  I’m glad they are.  We can’t afford another attack on the scale of 9/11 because we have become complacent.  If they have to check out my website as part of a larger program to protect American citizens, so be it.  I think they could spend their time more productively tracking down elements that have vowed to bring down this Country and harm its citizens, but if they want to visit my website from time to time, they are welcome to do so.

It is a shame that the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security have decided that good Americans who voice disagreement with the administration are a threat to this Country.  If this website is being monitored because it presents opposing views, that is truly unfortunate.  President Obama has been extremely conciliatory toward America’s most vocal critics from around the world.  Is it right to treat loyal but dissenting Americans with more suspicion and scrutiny than foreign despots who want to destroy us?

Having said all this, I know that there are many good conservative military personnel out there, and probably quite a few at USAISC.  I want to extend an invitation to you to visit and contribute to this website anytime, and unlike some, we don’t require you to agree with our politics.

Chill. The web is full of automated crawlers that index your website's content. I'm sure you also get spambots trying to stuff your site full of ads for Viagra, but it doesn't mean they're monitoring your sex life. No one's making a decision about which sites to monitor, they monitor EVERYTHING (just like Google).

Oh My God...I hope SOMEONE is looking at my web site, otherwise I'm wasting my time. By the way, how are things in Englewood Colorado? The point is, my stats program can tell the difference between real users and bots. Besides, the visitors from USAIS answered a poll question. Bots don't do that. I had another web site from May through November of last year (previous administration) in which I was critical of both parties, and not once did I get a hit from USAIS in Arizona, or NNIS Naval intelligence in Florida, or multiple hits from Arlington and Alexandria Virginia from who know what organization. ConservativeCompass.com has gotten all of those. If you read my post you know I have already chilled. I'm OK with whatever we need to do to protect American citizens. I just think it is interesting, and a monumental waste of intelligence resources. Thanks for the comment Charlie!
