Albert Einstein said that nothing could go faster than the speed of light. Which as you can imagine, takes a lot of the fun out of interplanetary travel. Thank goodness for the Warp Drive!
Where would Star Trek be if it had to be bound by the rules of real science? Year after year of monotonous travel through the vast emptiness of space just to get to the nearest star, which in all likelihood doesn’t even have any life supporting planets. How much fun would it be to watch Kirk and the crew cooped up in the Enterprise with no where to go? Imagine a Star Trek with no Klingons, no Romulans, no Vulcans (sorry Spock), and especially no hot alien babes! Fortunately Star Trek is fantasy, no kiddin’, and all the writers had to do was create Warp Drive to get around this inconvenient scientific problem. With Warp Drive a ship can travel hundreds of light years in the time it takes to get from one commercial to the next. Bring on the hot alien babes! It seems that Al Gore and the Global Warming Community also have an inconvenient scientific problem. For decades they’ve been telling us that the more CO2 we dump into the atmosphere the warmer the planet would get. Not that the New York Times would tell you, but it appears that they’ve been wrong. Since 1998 the planet has not been warming, some would say it has actually been cooling. Check out the data here: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2008/02/19/january-2008-4-sources-say-globally -cooler-in-the-past-12-months/ Now, this is in spite of increasing concentrations of atmospheric CO2. This is a big problem. Without Global Warming, Al’s cap and trade investment schemes would be out millions. Congress would lose a powerful tool to regulate our lives. Environmental lobbyists would no longer be able to dine in posh DC restaurants and have to go back to eating tofu and wheat grass tea. Oh what is an environmental crusader to do? Whip out the warp drive! You see Al hasn’t actually been crusading just against Global Warming, but against Global Climate Change. Apparently as the world warms it can actually get cooler. Let Seth Borenstein, AP’s science guy explain: Ironically, 2008 is on pace to be a slightly cooler year in a steadily rising temperature trend line. Experts say it's thanks to a La Nina weather variation. While skeptics are already using it as evidence of some kind of cooling trend, it actually illustrates how fast the world is warming. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081214/D952LKP00.html See how easy that was? No messy talk about where the extra heat that’s been trapped by all of that CO2 goes. No worries about explaining why the computer models failed to predict this cooling. No boring details about how warming can actually lead to cooling. It’s Warp Drive simple, a cooler year "actually illustrates how fast the world is warming." Now all we need are the hot alien babes and life will be perfect.
