It is still several days to the inauguration and our President elect is already facing resistance and downright opposition to his proposed “critical” economic rescue package. It appears that Congress is more concerned about control of the package details than debating the need or wisdom of the proposal itself. How soon relations between the Legislative and Executive branches appear to be turning.
It is becoming obvious that Pelosi and her evil henchmen are reluctant to release their power to the new upstart President. No great wonder that they torpedoed Hillary’s bid for the nomination. Her reputation as a tenacious opponent went straight to the heart of the Liberal control freaks in Congress. They clearly felt that Obama would be easier to “handle” and lead down the path of their tax and spend agenda. Surprisingly President elect Obama is showing some delightful spunk, in effect telling the blowhard members of Congress, “If you’ve got a better idea, step up and bring it to the table.” I get the feeling that type of challenge was not appreciated much by Pelosi et al, so instead of contributing constructive ideas, they merely responded by sniping at the various pieces of the package, complaining about how Republicans have mis-managed the first half of the stimulus money and adding stunning amounts of additional spending for their own pet pork. The original request for the remaining $350 billion of the TARP money, has ballooned to $850 billion under the careful guidance of Congressional leaders. At the same time, Obama’s original (and strangely centrist) $3000 tax break for business as an incentive to add employees is nowhere to be seen. Now I’m not ready to fall in line behind the most Liberal of Liberal Senators, and I have grave concerns about what he has planned for our Country and economy when it eventually rebounds, (The beef rancher brings in a veterinarian to keep his herd healthy, but don’t forget: The rancher has ultimate plans for his cattle). However, it is really interesting to witness the interaction going on in DC, and I’m getting a bit of perverse satisfaction from seeing the Dems infighting for power and position in the days leading up to the new administration. The honeymoon hasen't even begun, and already we've had our first spat. It looks as if we are going to be stuck with this marriage for at least four years and from early indications, it may be a stormy relationship.
